Reverend Frederick D. Favors grew up in Forrest City, Arkansas. He attended the public schools in Forrest City and later matriculated at the University of Arkansas earning a Bachelor of Science at Pine Bluff in Pre-Med with a minor in Chemistry. In addition, he attended Atlanta University earning a Master’s of Science Degree in Administration and Policy Study.
In 1977, Rev. Favors answered an even greater call to go into the entire world and preach the gospel so he could work to build the Master’s Kingdom. In his obedience to the call of God and quest for seminary training, his advancement continued in theology at Morehouse School of Religion and Columbia Theological Seminary.
His employment advanced in the public school system of Forrest City from 1979 to 1981. In 1984, he became an educator in the Cobb County Georgia Public School System. Later during the same year, he became the Pastor of Springfield Baptist Church in Thomson, Georgia, therefore, becoming the Fifth Pastor since its inception in 1873.
During the 38 years that Rev. Favors has been the Pastor of Springfield, the church has experienced tremendous growth and many positive changes. Membership has increased by more than 1,000. Many ministries and services have been established to respond to the holistic needs of the membership and the community. Springfield with the dynamic visionary leadership of Rev. Favors is/and has been active in local, state, and national Christian growth activities.
Because of his scriptural knowledge of servanthood, his community, civic, and religious involvement continues to enhance growth as a pastor and as a person. He is affiliated with the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the Free and Accepted Masons, and the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia (GMBC). Since 1984, he has been a member of the Executive Board, and served on the Congress Staff and has been a part of a myriad number of auxiliaries and task force. He served as former Vice-President of the Eastern Region and is currently the Chief of Staff. He also serves as a moderator of the Fourth Shiloh Association. In his community and civic organizations, he has organized the Georgia Planning Group Board for Health Promotion, the McDuffie County Human Relations Board, and has served on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee, and the McDuffie County NAACP. For the past 14 years, he has served on the McDuffie County Board of Commissioners, and the Board of Managers for the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG). Reverend Favors also chairs the Workmen Compensation Trustee Board of Georgia’s Commissioners. He serves on the Board of the Atlanta Peachtree Citizen Education Board of Rainbow PUSH.
In his community and civic organizations, he organized the Georgia Planning Group Board for Health Promotion, the McDuffie County Human Relations Board, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee. Also, a member of the McDuffie County NAACP and serves on the Rainbow PUSH Atlanta Peachtree Citizen Education Organization. Currently, Reverend Favors serves on the following boards: McDuffie County Board of Commissioners (For 25 ½ years), Board of Managers for the Association County of Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG), Chairs the Workmen Compensation Trustee Board of Georgia’s Commissioners, and Atlanta Peachtree Citizen Education Board Rainbow PUSH.
A few of the awards, recognitions, and invitations for Reverend Favors are as follows: invited to be a part in a dialogue at the Oxford Round Table in Oxford, England, to discuss Religion and The Moral Decline of Public Education, guest preacher for the Centennial Celebration of ACCG, Georgia Congressional Legislative Devotional message, Rainbow PUSH Pioneer Faith Award (Atlanta, Georgia), Rainbow PUSH Coalition Fund Award (Chicago, Illinois).
He is married to the former Elene P. Ward, a retired educator, and has two sons: Terence, and Frederick, Jr. a wonderful daughter-in-law, (Jacqueline Marie), and two loveable granddaughters: Adrianna and Briana.
